July 10-13    Painting the Pennines in Summer.      £195

Sketch and paint in different outdoor locations using a variety of media and then develop your ideas into paintings back in the studio. July offers the painter colourful Pennine hay meadows and river banks with their profusion of wild flowers as well as the drama of late evening sunshine. All abilities welcome.


Aug 17-19    Abstract Painting from Landscape

and Buildings.                                                          £155

Sketch the landscape and its built structures, including the village, in a variety of media and then develop your drawings into paintings as abstract ideas in the studio. All abilities welcome.

This course is now also repeated Aug 21-23


Sept 18-21   Trees, Waterfalls and Clouds:

Painting in the Hills and Valleys                                       £195

Capture the forms and feel of natural phenomena on sketching walks and develop these into powerful paintings back in Rose House Studio. Whatever the weather the rivers, streams, trees and clouds animate the grandeur of the upland landscape. Explore your responses to these in a variety of drawing and painting media. All abilities welcome.

 

Oct 16-18       Lead Mining Landscapes                            £155 

Visit a variety of old lead-mining landscapes to sketch hidden tunnel entrances, chimneys and workings in the dramatic settings of the North Pennine moors then make painting responses in the studio. Work in the medium of your choice and explore new materials and techniques in drawing and painting. All abilities welcome.

Nov 21-22       Meditations on Still Life                             £110                              

Contemplate traditional and unusual arrangements of objects and light through drawing and painting.  This weekend course will help you develop greater sensitivity in colour, tone and composition in the dramatic upland setting of Rose House Studio


             

Courses for Groups


If you are a group, such as an art club, we can design courses especially tailored to your needs up to a maximum size of 10 people. Just email us with your proposal and a contact phone number and we will get in touch straight away to discuss your ideas and how we can help. Don’t forget that Lionel has worked with a great many different groups over the years and is very experienced in designing courses to meet a range of creative needs.


What’s included


Materials


We have a good stock of drawing and painting materials including oils ,acrylics, dry pastels, oil pastels, watercolour, graphite pencils, coloured pencils, charcoal and sketching paper and drawing boards at no extra cost. We can also provide some outdoor sketching easels but please check availability if you are planning not to bring your own. If you wish to bring your own favorite materials and equipment that’s fine.

Other materials such as brushes, palettes and canvases/prepared boards watercolour paper and large drawing paper are generally not included in the price but can be purchased from Lionel as needed. If you want to order specific canvas and board sizes in advance please email your request to us and we will quote you a price.



Refreshments

Morning and afternoon tea and coffee along with delicious home-made cakes and biscuits will be provided during the day.  A light lunch is also included in the price.

Wine is provided during evening slide shows.



What’s not included

At present we are only able to offer non-residential courses.  For a choice of local accommodation and provision of main meals, do look at the places to stay and places to eat pages for a list of options.  We’re more than happy to help you  with bookings.
